  • What’s New for Sale and Rent? Start on our affordable housing landing page by clicking on on HousingQuest.com and scroll down to our Featured Properties.  Then click on the properties that interest you.  New properties are marketed for 45 to 90 days, after which there is a Random Selection (AKA “lottery”) at which we assign a random priority number to households who submitted preliminary applications prior to the deadline date.  During a second phase of the process, we send out final applications (many more than there are available units), maintaining the priority order based on the randomly assigned priority numbers, size and income level of the available units, and any applicable locally-authorized priorities, such as regional preference or veterans preference.
  • Interested in Purchasing an Existing Affordable Home? Many homes come up for resale to income qualified households.  These homes are  typically for sale by owner, although there are times when real estate agents are engaged by the seller to help with the process.  Our job for those units in municipalities that engage us, is to help market the units, have a small random selection among potential buyers, and forward applicants to the owner / seller as needed.  Click here to access a list of existing affordable homes that are currently available for purchase by income qualified households.  We do not provide financing, which is the responsibility of the purchaser.
  • Interested in Existing Rentals in Your Area?  Sometimes, browsing our site is the best way to find what you need.  By clicking here, you can search by county, town or property  name to access many rental properties.  For instance, you can choose a town and the search will return all of the properties (sale and rental) in that municipality.  You will note that many existing rental communities have waiting lists that are closed.  This is largely due to the fact that literally thousands of applications were received prior to the initial deadline date back when the property was first marketed (see #1, above).  For those properties where the waiting list IS open, there still may be hundred or more applicants on the waiting list for some types of units, while the list may be small or even non-existent for specific types of units.  If the waiting list is open, we encourage you to apply.  There is no fee for submitting a Preliminary Application for a property.  We will prioritize your Preliminary Application on a “first-come, first-served” basis and behind the applications that we received during the initial random selection.

The above “quick-start guide” is provided to help you get started in the right direction.  These helpful hints may not apply to every property or every preliminary application.  All affordable housing listed is contingent upon the approval of a FINAL APPLICATION, the details of which are NOT addressed here.

We acknowledge that the process can be long and somewhat cumbersome, all in service to fairness and equality.  And we know that the demand for affordable homes far exceeds the supply.  Please be assured that we do our best to help as many folks as we can.  Moreover, our goal – our vocation – our hope is that you find what you are looking for: a safe, clean and affordable place for you and your loved ones to call home.
